Mitchell-Baynes (301/827-7164), Contracting Officer: Trudy Dartouzos (301/827-7165), Fax: (301/827-7103) The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) intends to award a purchase order for a Microwave Digestion System. The system should be designed for acid digestion at high temperature (260C) and high pressure (800psi) with appropriate safety features. The system must be corrosion and explosion resistant and capable of delivering 900 watts or more of microwave power in 10 watt or smaller increments. The system must be capable of controlling microwave power based on programmed temperature and pressure settings. The temperature must be a measure of internal reaction and not external vessel temperature. The system must be able to stir digests in each vessel while vessels rotate in the microwave oven. The stirring bars must be coated with TFM and Quartz or some material which provides contamination free stirring for ultratrace analysis. The system must include software, cables and interface card for personal computer control of all parameters including time, temperature, pressure, power and stirring. The software must also plot temperature and pressure curves and, store methods. The system must include an evaporation assembly for the fast evaporation of digestion acids from the digestion vessel/liner. Important features of the evaporation assembly include a filtered air inlet for ultratrace work, sealed vessel/liner design with vacuum suction (when used with in-house vacuum system), and heating of vessel/liner on bottom and side to prevent condensation of acid vapors. The system must also include the following: 1.) ETHOS 900 Labstation with automatic exhaust system. 2.) Built-in Magnetic Stirring. 3.) Software Package for Ethos 900 for operation and control of instrument. 4.) MD Rotor 1000/6 (with 6 high pressure vessels). 5.) TFM vessel (100ml volume) for MDR-1000/6. 6.) TFM Cover. 7.)
