COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JULY 21,1998 PSA#2141Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Procurement & Grants
Office, Contracts Management Branch, 255 E. Paces Ferry Road, NE, Room
419, Atlanta, GA 30305 B -- STUDY TO DEVELOP IMPROVED SECONDARY DNA TYPING METHODS FOR
MYCOBACTERIUM TUBERCULOSIS SOL 98S282(Q) DUE 080598 POC Charlotte
Flitcraft, Contract Specialist, (404) 842-6740 The Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) has a requirement for a Vendor to provide
services to conduct a study to develop an improved secondary DNA typing
method for Mycobacterium tuberculosis by identifying specific sites of
insertion for IS6110, especially sites that are common to low copy
number isolates, and characterize "hot spots" for insertion. The Vendor
will be required to develop DNA probes to detect specific insertions
and evaluate the probes with low copy number isolates to determine the
utility of the method as a secondary typing tool. CDC will furnish the
following materials to the Vendor: 1) four isolates of M. tuberculosis;
2) 100 Isolates or DNA Samples; 3) Molecular Weight Standard; 4) IS6110
Probe; and 5) the protocol for standard DNA fingerprinting using
IS6110. Potential Vendors shall meet the following minimum
qualifications: 1) Two years experience in DNA fingerprinting of M.
tuberculosis and related molecular biology techniques; 2) have existing
equipment for image scanning and analysis using the BioImage Whole Band
Analysis software package; 3) one year prior experience in safe
handling of M. tuberculosis; and 4) approved Biosafety Level 3
laboratories (as specifically detailed in "Biosafety in Microbiological
and Biomedical Laboratories", HHS Publication No. 93-8395) for
conducting the study. The period of performance will be for 12 months.
