NASA/LeRC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for the maintenance of existing Government-owned Concurrent computers including related operating system software, upgrades and UNIX security administration. The initial order will be for two (2) months, with 1 option to renew maintenance for twelve (12) months and a second option to renew maintenance for ten (10) monthes. The total life of the order will not exceed twenty-four (24) months. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/LeRC intends to purchase the items from the Concurrent Computer Corporation, Southfield, MI, 48034. Justification to permit contracting with Concurrent Computer has been prepared using citation 10 USC 2304 (c)(1) as its authority. Years of attempting to obtain competition for the maintenance of these machines has proven that due to Concurrent's proprietary machine design and technology they are the only source capable of maintaining their machines. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested firms have 5 days from the publication of this synopsis to submit in writing to the identified point of contact, their qualifications/capabilities. Such qualifications/capabilities will be used solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. Responses received after the 5 days or without the required information will be considered nonresponsive to the synopsis and will not be considered. A determination by the Government to not compete this proposed effort on a full and open competitive basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
