x225 Provide all parts tools, labor, material, equipment and each and
every item of expense for the construction of the Marine Environmental
Health Research Laboratory (MEHRL) building at Fort Johnson,
Charleston, SC. The new 7,292 M2 (78,460 SF) research facility shall be
constructed on site adjancent to the National Ocean Service's
Charleston Laboratory at the South Carolina Department of Natural
Resources Marine Resources Center. The pile supported building is two-
stories and contains laboratories for environmental chemistry,
environmental biology, cryogenic facilities, analycial clean labs and
bio-hazard environmental challenge (BSL3), as well as aquatic
production/testing, administrative support, and building support. The
work includes concrete piles, grade beams and substructure; structural
steel superstructure; brick masonry and storefront exterior walls;
precast concrete wing for aquatic production; laboratory casework and
furnishings; fume hoods; liquid nitrogen system; lab gases systems;
elevator; prefabricated environmental control chambers; prefabricated
hazardous material storage units; fire protection system; fire
sprinkler system; security system; VAV HVAC system with hot water
boilers and chillers; UPS system; telephone/data communication system;
emergency generator; landscaping; and paving. The sitework (grading,
storm drainage, utility relocation and environmental protection) is
being preformed under a separate contract. Completion time for this
project is 547 calendar days. Specifications and bid documents will be
available on or about August 10, 1998. SIC code 1542 applies.
Estimated cost of construction is over $10,000,000.00. There is a
$125.00 non-refundable charge for each bid set. Payment for bid sets
shall be made out to, "U.S. Department of Commerce, NOAA". Payments
will only be accepted in the form of a certified check, cashiers check
or money order, personnel checks and cash will not be accepted. All
responsible sources may submit a bid which shall be considered by the
agency. Copies of bid documents are limited and will be issued on a
first-come, first-serve basis. There is a limit of three sets of bid
documents per requestor. All requests for bid documents must be in
