This procurement is for the extension of work currently being performed under Contract N00167-97-C-0080 with Energy Research Corporation, 3 Great Pasture Road, Danbury, CT 06813, to do a cmplete conceptual design study of 2.5 MW molten carbonate fuel cells with complete environmental and performance tests. The additional work will examine the use of horizontal fuel cell stacks to provide better ship integration and resistance to shock loads. Also, the extension of the study will help develop a preliminary dynamic model of the system, conduct integrated testing of the diesel fuel processor and fuel cell stack to verify that the fuel cell design is capable of providing the power quality required by naval ships.
