COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JULY 23,1998 PSA#21432ND ANNUAL SCIENCE FORUM FOR SMALL BUSINESS ON SEPTEMBER 1, 1998 The
Jet Propulsion Laboratory/California Institute of Technology
(JPL/Caltech), operating under a prime contract with the National
Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), will host the "2nd Annual
Science Forum for Small Businesses" at JPL, 4800 Oak Grove Drive,
Pasadena, CA on September 1, 1998 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 Noon in Building
167 Conference Room. The Science Forum, hosted by JPL's Business
Opportunities Office, is cosponsored by NASA's Earth Science and Space
Science Enterprises and NASA's Office of Small and Disadvantaged
Business Utilization. The purpose of the Forum is to allow high-tech
small businesses the opportunity to present technical capabilities to
key JPL, NASA, and Prime Contractors engineers, scientists, Management
and Procurement personnel as well as other small businesses. It is an
opportunity for the small businesses presenting to be considered for
subcontracting, teaming or mentoring opportunities. Essentially, the
Forum creates a "rare high-level marketing opportunity" for small
firms. It puts them in front of key Management, Technical and
Procurement personnel described as "hard to get to." Presently, over
one-third of all presenters at NASA Forums have received a contract or
subcontract, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities
and Other Minority Institutions(HBCU/OMIs) capable of participating in
NASA's most complex high-tech work in designated areas that directly
support our missions. TARGETED AREAS: (1) Earth & Space Science
Research & Applications; (2) Sensor & Instrument Technology; (3)
Commercial Remote Sensing; (4) Spacecraft Hardware; (5) Space & Ground
Communications; (6) Electrical, Mechanical & Systems Engineering; (7)
Lasers & LIDAR Systems; (8) Data & Information Technology; and (9)
Telecommunications. HOW TO APPLY: All firms interested in participating
in the Forum should submit a brief statement of corporate capabilities
that specifically address the above-mentioned targeted areas. Four (4)
to six (6) firms will be selected. There is no registration fee and
participation is voluntary. Firms selected to present must travel at
their own expense. The deadline for submission of capabilities is July
27, 1998. There is no special format; however it should contain a
cover page summarizing the company. Please include the following items
in your cover page: (1) a contact name; (2) address; (3) phone number;
(4) FAX; and (5) E-mail address. Firms selected will be notified within
two (2) weeks. In order to participate, you must submit your intention
to attend the Forum at the official Science Forum web site at:
http://acquisition.jpl.nasa.gov/boo/sciforum.htm along with an attached
capability statement via E-mail to: andrew.s.guyton@jpl.nasa.gov. Your
response should include the following items: (1) a contact name; (2)
address; (3) phone number; (4) FAX number; and (5) E-Mail address. If
your are submitting a capability statement you are limited to five (5)
pages (Word 7.0 (or earlier) or in text format). A reference (only) to
your company's home page does not count as a capability statement. If
you are not selected to participate in the Science Forum, you may still
attend as it is open to the general public. At past Forums,
non-presenters have actually received contracts through networking with
representatives in attendance so it is to your advantage to attend.
