The Volpe National Transportation Systems Center is conducting a market search with the intention of issuing a solicitation in the near future for an organization/company that has the capability to conduct computer modeling, using motion simulation software, of trains passing on adjacent tracks. Of specific interest is streamlined high-speed passenger trains and their interaction with high surface area freight trains such as trains carrying empty double stack container cars. A successful modeling effort will analyze the aerodynamic forces and other effects related to the interaction of such trains taking into account the flow of air surrounding the moving trains on parallel tracks.
