e-mail, pmichel@wr.usgs.gov. The U.S. Geological Survey seeks
information on potential sources for technical services to support the
Coastal and Marine Geology Program, Western Region. The contractor
will produce web pages, digital databases, user interfaces in ARC/INFO
and ArcView, cross-platform (PC, Mac and UNIX) CD-ROMs for archiving
and distributing digital databases, software, manuals for the
foregoing, and posters and slides from maps, graphs, and other images.
Product end users are both scientists and the general public. Source
materials include USGS marine geologic maps (digital and hard copy),
field notes, various digital data files, metadata files, photographs,
graphs, open file reports, ARC/INFO databases, etc. Contractor
personnel must have education in geology with emphasis on marine
geology and experience processing geological and geophysical data sets
demonstrating ability to use judgement in processing complex data
sets. Computer expertise available from the contractor will include
Macintosh, Unix, and PC systems;Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop,
Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel; ARC/INFO and ArcView to create and
analyze GIS databases and digitizing paper maps for ARC/INFO;
programming in AML and Avenue for ARC/INFO and ArcView; ArcView Data
Publisher for CD-ROM development; C and FORTRAN programming; web site
development using HTML, JAVA, client-side image maps, and animated
GIFs, for both technical and general audiences. Contractor will work on
several long- and short-term projects and will use USGS onsite
equipment and meet frequently with USGS personnel, therefore contractor
personnel must reside within commuting distance of Menlo Park, CA.
Man-hour requirements equivalent to 2 highly qualified full time
personnel are anticipated. Interested parties should respond in writing
to attention of the contracting officer at the address above, within 15
days of publication date of this notice, with detailed information on
its technical and management personnel, facilities, and corporate
experience to demonstrate itscapabilities for meeting the USGS
requirements described herein, and commercial pricing information if
available. Responses to this announcement will be used by the
Government only to determine if a future solicitation will be issued.
Responses which do not include the requested information will not be
considered in the Government's decision. This is not a request for
proposals, and no RFP is available at this time. Any solicitation to be
issued by the USGS for the requirements described herein will be
