81 -- TRAVEL VAULT II SOL M67854-98-R-2148 DUE 080798 POC Peggy Smith, 703-784-5822 x252; FAX 703-784-5826 The Marine Corps Systems Command intends to negotiate a sole source, commercial item contract with Pelican Products of Los Angeles, CA. The contractor will be responsible for providing 253 each Travel Vaults II (Pelican Model 1700). These containers are considered a commercial type item; therefore it is anticipated that simplifed acquisition procedures will be utilized. The Marine Corps Systems Command, Code CBG, has found through market research that the Travel Vault II is the only commercially available case with the appropriate length, securable latches, self air pressure equalizing system and ballistic material composition that will not require specific manufacturing orders to accommodate the Designated Marksman Rifle transportability. This system is the same system currently used with the M40A1 Sniper Rifle transportability and will not require additional items to be added to the current system. No RFP is available for competitive bidding; however, interested parties may submit a statement of capability for satisfying this requirement, to include descriptive literature and pricing, within 15 days of this announcement to the contact person listed above. This announcement is not a request for competitive proposals; however, all proposals received by the date identified above will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this propsoed requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
