Fontana Dam Wire Saw Cutting Operation For Slots Between Blocks 32/33, 34/35 and 41/42. Modifications that will be required to counteract the concrete growth/Alkali Aggregate Reaction (AAR) problems over the next 25 years will include the following: * For slot 32/33 remove and reinstall seal cover plates, plates and other modifications along the slot exposure at the upstream and downstream dam faces, dam crest roadway and appurtenant structures, and gallery floors as needed. * For slot 32/33 cut between 3 and 5-inches of concrete from the right side wall of the existing stress relief slot and remove the concrete materials from the slot cut (approximately 93 feet deep). * Cut a 15 mm stress relief slot across the upper nonoverflow dam section between blocks 34/35 and 41/42 (approximately 87 and 83 feet deep respectfully). Two passes may be required. All concrete cutting and waste water must be collected for treatment and disposal. The Fontana Project is located in Swain and Graham Counties, North Carolina at river mile 61.0 on the Little Tennessee River.
