Contract Specialist via, donnelly.dave@epamail.epa.gov. The U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) is seeking qualified sources
to provide conference support services for a Workshop on
Biomathematical Modeling of the Risks of Disinfection By-Products. The
workshop will focus on dose-response research to evaluate the cancer
and non-cancer effects of Disinfection By- Products (DBPs) in drinking
water. An important part of this research is to develop mechanistic
models of toxic effects of DBPs to reduce the uncertainties in the
predictions of human health risks for DBPs. The purpose of the workshop
is to 1) Define the existing state of biomathematical modeling support
of DBP risk assessment; (2) Identify key areas where models and
information needed to produce or test them are deficient; and (3)
Specify the most beneficial strategy for producing the suite of models
needed to predict the relationship between exposure and risk for DBPs
and mixtures thereof. The workshop shall focus on meeting the above
goals and shall result in the writing of a detailedresearch strategy
that will specify the modeling tasks that need to be carried out to be
able to predict the relationship between exposure and risk for
individual DBPs and mixtures of DBPs. The contractor shall plan,
organize, implement, and provide a written report on the workshop. The
workshop shall not exceed two days. The contractor shall establish a
Guiding Committee from among scientists conducting relevant research in
DBPs or related areas, and will perform all steps necessary to plan a
workshop to meet the goals and time frame. The Guiding Committee shall
be selected from scientists in the Research Triangle Park and from
within a 100 mile radius of Research Triangle Park, NC to represent a
balance among the academic, governmental, and private sectors, and will
have primary responsibility for selecting workshop participants and
determining the workshop agenda. The contractor shall perform all tasks
necessary to conduct the workshop, including inviting participants,
providing an appropriate venue, providing for the necessary equipment,
and providing for production of a summary of the deliberations of the
workshop participants. The contractor shall prepare a written final
report of the workshop. The period of performance is from the date of
award through September 30, 1999. This acquisition is a small business
set-aside with a SIC code of 8999 with a size standard of $5M in
average annual receipts over the preceding three fiscal years. The EPA
anticipates awarding a firm fixed-price purchase order. The Request
for Quotation (RFQ) is expected to be issued on or about 8/11/98 with
quotations due approximately 8/25/98. All responsible sources must
respond within 15 days from the date of this announcement. Faxed
requests will be honored, including faxed quotations. Telephone
requests will not be honored. Submit requests to the attention of David
Donnelly. The fax number is (919) 541-4273 or (919) 541-1075. See
