The current mission is to provide support for USN research submarine towing, submarine rescue utilizing existing flyaway submarine rescue chamber (FSRC) and a highly maneuverable submarien rescue chamber (HMSRC). The vessel will also support submarine sea trial escort, diving, and submarine torpedo exercise target/recovery operations. The vessel operates out of Groton, CT.
