This project consists of the construction of approximately 11,680 feet
of trail. The Base Bid includes the construction of approximately 2,038
feet of various boardwalk types, the construction of approximately
2,289 feet of native tread trail, the clearing of approximately 7,068
feet of aggregate trail, and the construction of 13 trail bridges
totaling 285 feet in length. Additive #1 is the furnishing and
transportation of approximately 370 tons of crushed aggregate to
various locations along the trail. Additive #2 is the trailbed
preparation, stabilization, and placement of the crushed aggregate on
the aggregate trail sections. Balls Lake Trail is located on Prince of
Wales Island approximately 16 miles west of Thorne Bay, Alaska, on
Forest Highway 42. Prince of Wales Island is accessible from Ketchikan,
Alaska, by float plane, boat, or Alaska Marine Highway to Hollis,
Alaska. Contract is to be completed by December 1, 1999. Estimated
price range is between $250,000 and $500,000. Telephone requests for
