R -- PROFESSIONAL, ADMINISTRATIVE, AND MANAGEMENT SUPPORT SERVICES SOL RFQ-NCI-80183 DUE 081398 POC Cynthia Brown, Purchasing Agent, 301-402-4509, Todd Cole, Contracting Officer The National Cancer Institute (NCI), Division of Clinical Sciences, Laboratory of Pathology proposes to procure the services of a hematopathologist, Dr. Stefania Pittuluga, 2129 Florida Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C., 20008. The services are needed for a Study of Gene Expression of Human Lymphomas (Non-Hodgkins and Hodgkins). Background: The Laboratory of Pathology, DCS is dedicated to understanding and unraveling the pathological basis of cancer development. The Laboratory of Pathology is focusing on different aspects of cancer development from the early transformation of normal cells, to tumor progression and metastases. Specifically, the Laboratory of Pathology has been focusing on a category of neoplasia with the goal of achieving a better understanding of the biology and pathogenesis with a focus on molecular biologic and immunohistochemical markers and their application to diagnostics. The Laboratory has utilized novel approaches based on microarray gene technology to identify new potential diagnostic and prognostic markers in lymphomas. By anlayzing the differential expression of a set of known genes in well established cell lines derived from hematopoietic tissues, this unit has identified new diagnostic markers. The Laboratory of Pathology has developed a technique to obtain representative cDNAs from microdissected tissue sections under immunohistochemical guidance. This immunolaser capture technique and message amplification procedures have been used to extract intact RNA from microdissected tissues and to obtain representative cDNA.This technological development allows one to study primary lymphoma samples in gene expression microarrays. A new phase of the foregoing study will require training in hematopathology in addition to expertise in molecular techniques since tissue sections from primary lymphoma cases will be used. Requirements: The Contractor shall have significant experience as a hematopathologist with expertise in immunohistochemistry, molecular biology, and microdissection. This expertise shall include experience in the following: 1) knowledge and experience with molecular biologic and immunohistochemistry with particular reference to lymphomas; 2) experience with microarray technology; 3) experience in analyzing the differential expression of a set of genes in established hematopoietic cell lines as well as neoplastic tissues (lymphomas); 4) experience with immuno-laser capture techniques and message amplification procedures; and 5) experience obtaining representative cDNAs from microdissected tissues under immunohistochemical guidance. This procurement is set aside for small business with a Standard Industrial Class Code of 8733. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. Stefania Pittaluga is the only source known to NCI that can meet these requirements. However, if any interested party believes it can meet the above specification, it may submit a statement of capabilities to the attention of Cynthia Brown, Purchasing Agent at the above address. Information furnished must be in writing and must contain material in sufficient detail to allow NCI to determine if the party can perform the requirement.
