S -- - NOTICE OF INTENT TO NEGOTIATE A SOLE SOURCE CONTRACT WITH THE NW INDIAN FISHERIES COMMISSION (NIFC). Notice of intent to negotiate a sole source contract with the Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission (NIFC). Purpose of contract is to replace database for Puget Sound chinook with a new stock assessment database. The NIFC represents 20 individual Puget Sound tribes. Chinook salmon are taken in all of these tribes for subsistence/ceremonial purposes. Tribal managers carry out tag recovery and age structure sampling programs for chinook salmon as well as documenting catch and escapement levels. The NIFC's scientific staff works closely with all tribal managers and coordinates the compilation of combined harvest and sampling data for all the tribal fisheries in Puget Sound.
