The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Space Environment Center (SEC) proposes to negotiate on a sole source basis contract under the authority of 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1) with Vertex Communications Corporation of Kilgore, TX for the move and upgrade of two existing Vertex 6.1m antennas. NOAA requires the two GOES antennas currently installed to be moved to the new antenna farm site at the new NOAA building. Foundations for the antennas have already been installed and these antennas were purchased from Vertex. At the time of the move, the antennas will also be upgraded to the more recent microprocessor based antenna control system to improve the pointing flexibility and performance. The move of these antennas by the manufacturer is required to ensure the systems meet the original performance and specifications following the move. The antenna controllers are an integral part of the overall antenna system with interfaces to the existing motor drive assemblies and position sensors, and therefore must be obtained from, and installed by the original manufacturer. This procurement is being conducted per FAR Part 13, Simplified Acquisition Procedures. This synopsis is issued for information only. No competitive solicitation is planned.
