The National Weather Service has a requirement for the purchase of NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) transmitters, spares, and related support services. The desired transmitters would be 100 to 1000 watts, FM, 162 MHz, dual redundant, and possess automatic switching. The support services may include training, maintenance, installation, and other support activities. With this procurement, NOAA will also be establishing a designated source(s) of supply for transmitters to upgrade and enhance the existing NWR network for purchase by state and local partnerships. It is estimated that NOAA may purchase up to 228 systems over the next 5 years. Most of these systems would likely be purchased and installed in multiple small lots of 1 to up to as many as 20. All responsible sources may submit a proposal for consideration by the agency. Requests for the solicitation may be faxed to the attention of Mr. Greg Smith at (301) 713-0806. Draft specifications for the transmitters were previously made available via the Internet at http://www.oso3.nws.noaa.gov/oso31 and the updated specifications are anticipated to be made available shortly after the solicitation is released. It is anticipated that the solicitation will be issued by late-August with proposals due by October 1, 1998.
