Temporary coverage in the Urology Section at the Portland VA Medical Center for a Medical/Surgical Registered Nurse with Basic Life Support Certification. Work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The RN must be experienced in performing transrectal ultrasound, prostate biopsy, flexible cytoscopy, uroflow studies and dressing changes. Assess and prepare patient for provider based on upon clinic guidelines. Utilize nursing process in planning/caring for patients. Do patient teachings: direct patient, significant other and family members. Follow up tests by telephone. Assist providers with specialty procedures/treatment. Perform quality management activities, i.e., ancillary lab site. Participate in research (PIVOT study) by assisting with follow up patients' paperwork. Screen charts for TRUS/Urodynamics. Help urology primary nurse with telephone care patients. The RN will work primarily in the urology clinic and oncology prostate clinic. A request for quotation of a commercial service will be issued on or about July 31. Issuance of a purchase order will be during the week of August 18. Services will be required beginning September 1, 1998 for approximately 3 to 4 months.
