furnishing all labor, materials, and equipment required to remove
existing filter media and to furnish and install new filter media in
four filter basins and related work at the water plant facility No.
734. The work includes the following: Carefully remove existing layer
of granular activated carbon from filter basin, in a manner to avoid
damage to the filter basin walls and equipment. The removed carbon
shall become property of the Contractor. Carefully remove the sand and
gravel layers of filter media in a manner to avoid damage to the
bottom filter tiles or to filter basin walls or equipment. Dispose on
the Station within 3 miles of the filters where directed by the
Contracting Officer. Wash debris and loose material from filter basin
walls and bottom filter tiles, and remove debris from basin. Do not
remove the bottom filter tiles. Inspect the bottom filter tiles for
damage or missing tiles. Notify the Contracting Officer in writing of
the results of this inspection. Apply an NSFStandard 61 approved
coating to interior filter basin concrete walls from the bottom of
filter basin to an elevation 12 inches above the operating high water
level in the filter basin. Remove the perimeter course of bottom filter
tiles to accomplish this work. Furnish and install new filter media
layers of gravel, sand, and virgin granular activated carbon. Disinfect
the filter in accordance with AWWA standard. Return the filter to
service. Test the operation of the filter, including the surface
wash/backwash systems. Coordinate with the Contracting Officer and
water treatment plant operating personnel. The existing water treatment
plant shall remain in operation during the construction period. No more
than one filter basin shall be out of service at one time. This is a
firm fixed price contract. Potential bidders should request IFB

days later. The proposed contract listed is 100% Small Business
Set-Aside. For purposes of completing the Representations and
Certifications issued with the specification, any concern submitting a
bid is classified as "small" if its annual receipts for its preceeding
three fiscal years do not exceed $17,000,000 (SIC CODE 1629). Site
visits will be scheduled approximately 3 weeks and 1 week prior to the
bid opening. These will be the only visits and accordingly, please
