It is the intent of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) to procure on a sole source basis with Chemical Abstract Services (CAS), 2450 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, Ohio 43202, for the purchase of the index entitle: "Chemical Abstracts -- Thirteenth Collective Index (13CI) -- volumes 116-125 -- Covering 1992 through 1996". The 13CI contains information and references over three-million documents -- journals articles, patents, conference proceedings, dissertations, books, reviews and technological information from around the globe. With the 13CI, the NLM can find the information we need about the world's chemistry-related literature in one convenient place. The 13CI has a variety of benefits and conveniences other sources cannot match. In order to carry out NLM's congressional mandate to acquire, preserve and organize the world's biomedical literature and to disseminate information concerning this literature to health professionals as expeditiously as possible, this 13CI is required to support the NLM's reference collection. The 13CI offers more efficient searches from choosing a subject term, substance name, author, patent number, molecular formula, or ring system. Because of the benefits and conveniences other sources cannot match, it makes the 13CI to purchase from CAS is particularly suitable for the support to the NLM's reference collection.
