National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD)has a
requirement to follow two cohorts of children who participated in The
Bedouin Infant Feeding Study during 1981 and 1982. The purpose of this
study is to compare the data collected on the growth and development
of these children from birth until age two with their current status at
age seventeen and eighteen. The comparsion will include data that was
obtained when the children were nine and ten years of age. The NICHD
plans to contract directly with Ben-Gurion University, Beer Sheva,
Israel in accordance with FAR 6.302-1 since they are the only known
source who has the data from the two age periods and has access to the
Bedouin population needed to perform the follow-up of these children
at age seventeen or eighteen. Any source who believes that they can
meet the requirements of this study must demonstrate the following:
1)possession of data on infant feeding practices in a population that
was previously nomadic and is now living in one place; 2) growth and
morbidity data on the children from birth to two years of age; 3)
follow-up data at nine and ten years of age; and 4) access to the
population in order to perform the follow-up at seventeen and eighteen.
