FOR INDUSTRY US Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM)
Advance Planning Briefing for Industry (APBI), October 26 -- 28, 1998,
Dearborn, Michigan. The 1998 TACOM APBI theme is "Building
Partnerships for the 21st Century" and will provide broad based
business planning information to industry relating to future
tank-automotive and armament plans, programs and acquisition
opportunities. TACOM, the Program Executive Officers and other
appropriate tank-automotive and armament organizations will present
market opportunities and plans to include research and development
efforts, procurement of end items, secondary items, maintenance, and
other system support business. This event will also describe
Acquisition Streamlining initiatives and other topics of special
interest. The intent is to encourage and support early and appropriate
communication between industry and the government during acquisition
planning process. The APBI is designed for industry executives involved
in advanced planning, directors and managers of research and
development, senior engineers concerned with vehicle systems, smart
munitions, small arms, and future artillery projectiles development,
engineering and production. The Keynote Speaker will be Dr. Steven
Kelman, Weatherhead Professor of Public Management at Harvard
University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. Other speakers will
include MG Roy E. Beauchamp, Commanding General (CG), TACOM; MG John
F. Michitsch, PEO, Ground Combat Support Systems; BG John P. Geis, CG,
TACOM Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center; Mr. Jerry
L. Chapin, Director, TACOM Research Development and Engineering Center;
Mr. Daniel Mehney, Director, TACOM Acquisition Center; Mr. Jimmy C.
Morgan, Director, TACOM-ACALA; Mr. Larry D. Scheuble, Director,
Integrated Materiel Management Center, TACOM; and COL (P) John M.
Urias, Deputy for Systems Acquisition, TACOM. There will also be
breakout sessions on the Industrial Committee for Tank and Automotive
Producers, Electronic Commerce/Electronic Contracting, Sustainment
Contracting Roadmap, Performance Specifications vs. Technical Data
Packages, Buying Commercial and How it Affects/Impacts Defense
