BUILDING INTO A FACILITY FOR BULK FERMENTATION OF PARENTERAL DRUGS
UTILIZING cGMP FINISHES, WORKSCOPES, PIPING AND HVAC. SAIC Frederick,
the operations and technical support contractor for the National Cancer
Institute (NCI), Frederick Cancer Research and Development Center
(FCRDC) has completed design for the renovation and upgrade to an
existing building. This is a 4200 SF (Gross), single story masonry and
steel structure owned by NCI at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland.
The work includes, but is not limited to, structural pressure grouting
of existing foundation, partial demolition of walls, raising of the
roof with installation of new attic mechnical area, installation of new
roof top air handling units, installation of new domestic water main
entrance, replacement of existing and installation of new plumbing,
HVAC and electrical systems, upgraded and refurbished reverse osmosis,
water for injection and clean steam systems, BioHazard Large Scale
Level 2 fermentation and Class 10,000 and 100,000 laboratories, tissue
culture lab, lab support areas and automated building control systems.
The building shall be enhanced architecturally to cGMP type surfaces
with replaced or repaired flooring, doors, wall surfaces and roofing.
Construction time frame is estimated to be six (6) months, including
contractor testing and acceptance. Potential contractors will be
required in their proposal to show direct experience of company and key
personnel in successfully completing at least one of the following: (a)
Facilities for Bulk Fermentation of Parenteral Drugs, (b) BL3 or BL4
Laboratories as well as Class 10,000 or Class 100,000 Clean Rooms, or
(c) Pharmaceutical Processing Facilities containing sanitary piping and
aseptic production equipment. Interested contractors will be required
in their proposal to provide evidence of having successfully built at
least one such Facility in the last five (5) years where the
construction cost was $3,000,000.00, or more, with evidence that those
facilities were tested, approved and accepted. Contractors shall
provide a statement of project management capabilities and techniques
with resumes of relevant/key personnel, who shall be made available for
the duration of the project. Interested prime contractors should
