H -- MODIFICATION TO EXISTING CONTRACT SOL DNA001-95-C-0188 POC Michelle Gerenyi, Negotiator, (703) 325-1190, Edward Archer, Contracting Officer, (703) 326-8506 The Defense Special Weapons Agency (DSWA) intends to issue a modification to an existing contract. In September 1995, DSWA established a Design Authority for its Supercontainer project by entering into a contractual agreement with the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) located in Aldermaston, England. AWE was also selected to assist in the design and development of a prototype Abnormal Event Lifting Kit (AELK), which was developed based upon requirements of the Russian Federation Ministry of Defense. AWE is now being asked to support and coordinate efforts related to the production of AELK as part of the Supercontainer project. AWE is the only responsible source. AWE developed the Supercontainer design and the AELK and has been service as the DSWA Design Authority for the Supercontainer project since September 1995. AWE has proven itself to be a reliable source for design and procurement of equipment to support the Supercontainer project. The company's familiarity with the project and the requirements of the Russian Ministry of Defense makes it the best possible source for continuation of this project. AWE can produce the certifications required for the AELK to support weapon transportation and destruction tied to this project. This is a sole source modification.
