contemplates awarding a purchase order for data collection and the
assessment of potential impact of organizational policies have on
reducing the occurrence of occupational tuberculosis (TB), blood borne
pathogen transmission, and vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) in
health care settings. For successful completion of the above services,
potential vendors must have the following capabilities: (1) access to
the 1992 TB survey collection form and its data; (2) experience
creating and administering large-scale surveys on healthcare-related
issues; (3) knowledge of current CDC/HICPAC guidelines for preventing
nosocomial transmission of TB and VRE through publication of articles
related to this subject; (4) knowledge about the management of
occupational exposures to blood borne pathogens and the current PHS
guidelines for post exposure prophylaxis for occupational HIV exposures
through publication of articles related to this subject; (5) knowledge
about potential barriers to compliance with CDC /HICPAC guidelines for
preventing nosocomial transmission of TB and VRE and PHS guidelines for
post exposure prophylaxis for occupational HIV exposures; (6) access to
and understanding of the pending OSHA TB Standard; (7) access to a list
of U.S. hospitals, long-term care facilities, and home health care
agencies that may be affected by the CDC guidelines and the OSHA
standards; (8) credibility and recognition as an expert within
professional organizations such as the Society for Healthcare
Epidemiology of America, Inc. (SHEA) and the Association for
Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (APIC). The
scheduled issue date of the request for quotations is August 27, 1998.
