Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, National Institutes of
Health, has a requirement to continue development of new methods of
electrically stimulating the auditory system to improve the information
transfer in auditory prostheses. Although this research will be limited
to animal studies, the ultimate goal is application of the results to
improved auditory prosthesis for deaf individuals. This acquisition
represents a recompetition of contract number N01-DC-6-2111 with the
University of Iowa. A three-year, cost-reimbursement type contract is
anticipated, with an award made on or about September 30, 1999. The
solicitation is scheduled to be issued on or about September 15, 1998.
Proposals will be due sixty days after the date of issuance of the
