A -- DESIGN FOR DUAL-MODE SAL/LADAR SEEKER CONCEPT FOR MODERNIZED HELLFIRE SOL RU197-98 POC (RDPC) Barry Howard, Contract Specialist, AMSAM-AC-RD-BB, (256)876-7900; Marcia N. Tully, Contracting Office, (256)876-1351 The CBD announcement (Submission No. 238537), posted in CBDNet on 18 August, 1998, referring to Modernized Hellfire and its relationship to AMCOM and DARPA, is in error and is hereby retracted. The Modernized Hellfire program, currently funded by the Army's technology base, remains under the control of the Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM). DARPA is the controlling agent for the Advanced Fire Support System (AFSS). AMCOM and DARPA have reached a working agreement involving a partnership of DARPA and the Missile Research, Development, and Engineering Center (MRDEC) at AMCOM. In addition, MRDEC is working closely with the Air to Ground Missile Systems (AGMS) Project Office to coordinate and direct Modernized Hellfire activities. The DARPA/MRDEC partnership will attempt to combine the goals of the DARPA AFSS program and AMCOM's Modernized Hellfire tech base program. The joint program will demonstrate missile technology which will be applicable to both the AFSS "missile-in-a-box" concept as well as theemerging requirements for Modernized Hellfire and other future Army close-combat missile systems. The CBD announcement by the Optics & Laser Technology Branch of MRDEC, AMCOM, addressed a new seeker concept for Modernized Hellfire. This announcement was made prior to the forming of the DARPA/MRDEC partnership on AFSS and Modernized Hellfire. Other Modernized Hellfire seeker candidates would have been covered in other CBD announcements since the LADAR/SAL seeker is considered only one of several candidates for Modernized Hellfire. Due to the joint nature of the new partnership between DARPA and MRDEC, it was decided to pursue all seeker work pertaining to Modernized Hellfire through the DARPA AFSS contract vehicle.
