During the FY98-FY99 time frame, the Product Manager -- Small Arms at the U.S. Army Tank Automotive and Armaments Command, U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center(TACOM-ARDEC) will submit a Request for Quote (RFQ) for a non-developmental 40mm low cost training cartridge. Candidate cartridges must meet the performance requirements of the Tri-Service Training Device Letter of Requirement (TDLR) for the High Velocity Practice Round and,as a revised by the user, must: a) cost no more than $10.00 per round for large production quantities b) be compatible with the MK-19 Mod 3 Grenade Machine Gun c) be a ballistic match to the M430/M430A1 High Explosive Dual Purpose Cartridge at a minimum range of 1800 meters; and upon impact, be capable of providing a visible signature for day firings. It is essential that the projectile impact be visible at 1500 meters (threshold); 1800 meters (objective), under standard operating conditions on level terrain. The subsequent RFQ will required 3008 each, low cost training cartridges to be delivered approximately 4 months after contract award for required qualification testing. All interested sources may submit an offer which will be considered. The U.S. Army intends to issue a non- competitive solicitation to Nico Pyrotechik of Germany.
