SOURCE: The U.S. Army Soldier Systems Command (SSCOM) has a requirement
to test specific NIGHT VISION/LIGHT SOURCE TECHNOLOGIES (i.e.
binoculars, imagers, goggles, and spotlight) for potential inclusion in
the joint Army/Marine Corp -- Military Operations in Urban Terrain --
Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration (MOUT ACTD) Program. The
items being tested have been chosen, after careful consideration of
available items in the marketplace, because of their expected
capability to meet certain MOUT-unique performance requirements. Items
that potentially meet the NIGHT VISION/LIGHT SOURCE TECHNOLOGIES, MOUT
ACTD Requirement No. 6(R6) as described at the MOUT ACTD Web site:
"yorktown.dc.isx.com/mout/index.html" will be evaluated in a small
quantity (1 unit) during a Product Demonstration (PD) at Camp Lejeune
NC early October, 1998 and possibly larger quantities (up to 7 units)
during USMC Experiment No. 4 in April, 1999. The products we are
expecting to procure on a sole source basis are: Pirate Night Vision
Binocular and AN PVS-14 (ITT -- Roanoke, VA), MILCAM-XP Plus Handheld
Thermal Imager (Inframetrics -- Billerica, MA), Night Vision Goggle AN
PVS-7D (Night Vision Equipment Company -- Emmaus, PA), Helmet Mounted
Thermal Imager (Raytheon TI Systems -- Dallas, TX) and IR Spotlight,
Models IR-7 and IR-8 (Night Vision Equipment Company -- Emmaus, PA).
