Herchak, Contracting Officer The USDA, Agricultural Research Service (ARS) intends to negotiate solely with Perkin Elmer, Norwalk, CT, to purchase a Differential Scanning Calorimeter, which consists of manager software, a cryofill liquid nitrogen cooling system, and an update kit. The Perkin-Elmer Pyris I (DSC) will be used to study melting profile, heat of fusion, enthalpy, glass transition temperature, specific heat, and other thermal properties of agricultural products. The software that will accompany the new instrument will also be used to upgrade the software for the existing Perkin-Elmer DSC7 that is presently on-site. The existing and new instruments will be networked to perform experiments simultaneously to allow for validation of research protocols and results. Therefore, the equipment must be 100% compatible with the existing Perkin Elmer DSC7. Companies with the demonstrated capability of providing this equipment must submit a descriptive statement, including descriptive literature, specifically addressing the equipment's component's and availability.
