COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 3,1998 PSA#2173B-PROGRAM AGAINST DIGITAL COUNTERFEITING OF U.S. CURRENCY This is a
revision to the Special Notice submitted 08/31/98 as CBD Submission No.
244333 which is solicitation for participation in the subject program
described herein. Program Against Digital Counterfeiting of U.S.
Currency Commerce Business Daily/Federal Register Solicitation for
Participation September 1, 1998 (Technology Forum: October 5 and 6,
1998 Solicitation for Industry Participants) Because of the increasing
availability and sophistication of inexpensive, easy-to-use digital
image and color output technologies, there has been a recent increase
in the use of these technologies to make counterfeit U.S. currency.
Accordingly, the U.S. Government is seeking information on methods to
combat this threat. The deterrent methods should include either or both
of: a) banknote recognition leading to the illegal output being
obscured and rendered unusable and b) output labeling for forensic
tracing and identification of originating equipment. To facilitate the
development and implementation of suitable methods for carrying out
the recognition and/or tracing systems, the Government is soliciting
the aid of the hardware/software industry. An open forum to begin the
interchange will be held October 5th and 6th, 1998 at the Johns Hopkins
University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland. Any
appropriate representatives of establishments that manufacture or
produce products related to the digital image industry (e.g., color
printing, Internet imaging, color image scanning, image handling
software) are invited to participate. Up to two representatives of each
company division may be included. To participate, interested parties
should submit the following information: 1) Company affiliation; 2)

Output Device, Multi-function Device, Software, Internet; 4) Name of
