COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 8,1998 PSA#2175National Cancer Institute, Research Contracts Branch, PSAS, 6120
Executive Blvd, EPS/Room 638, Bethesda, MD 20892-7227 66 -- SMART SYSTEM PACKAGE SOL RFQ80213(NR) DUE 092198 POC Marsha
Gorham, Purchasing Agent, (301)402-4509, & Todd Cole, Contracting
Officer The National Cancer Institute (NCI) plans to procure a Smart
System Package from Amersham Pharmacia Biotech, Inc., 33148 Treasury
Center, Chicago, IL 60694. The NCI has a need for rapid purification of
proteins and for analyzing protein to protein interactions in
micro-amounts. The system will be specifically used for the
purification and characterization of mutant RNAPs. The need to isolate
enzymes from different mutant stains can be accomplished, thereby
reducing time and costs, if micropurifications can be performed. In
addition, the researcher requires such a system in order to perform
protein to protein interactions with a minimal amount of protein and
ensure maximum signal-to-noise ratio. The basic system shall be
comprised of the following: a Microprecision Pump, a Variable Volume
Dynamic Gradient Mixer, a Microseparation Unit, an Injector, a
Micropeak Monitor, a Microfraction Fraction Collector, an Internal
Cooling Device, and appropriate Control and Evaluation Software. The
system shall also have the following specific features: 1) The system
shall be a micropreparative system designed to isolate a microgram and
less amounts of biomolecules from a wide range of starting volumes
(5.0 ml to 50 ml); 2) The system shall utilize liquid chromatography
column technology precision columns packed with a broad selection of
media; 3) It shall have precision columns that have internal diameters
from 1.6 to 3/2 mm and column lengths from 2.0 to 30.0 cm; 4) The
system shall achieve pulse-free gradient or isocratic separations; 5)
The system shall also prevent the formation of salt crystals; and 6)
The microprecision pump shall have a flow range of 10 -- 2000 ml with
a pressure limit of 25 mpa. 7) The system shall have special device to
automatically connects columns with minimal dead' volume; 8) The
system shall have fibre optics for sensitive UV monitoring of
microliters' volume, 9) The system shall have accurately and
reproducibly collect fractions as small as 5 microliters; and 10) The
system shall have an internal cooling device to cool to 4(C throughout
the integrated flow path. The Smart System Package from Amersham
Pharmacia Biotech, Inc is the only system known to NCI that can meet
the requirements herein. If any interested party believes it can meet
the above requirement with an equal system, it may submit a statement
of capabilities. The statement of capabilities and any other
information furnished must be in writing and must contain material in
sufficient detail to allow NCI to determine if the party can meet this
requirement. Capability statements must be received in the contracting
office by 3:00 p.m. EST, on September 21, 1998. If you have any
questions, please contact Marsha Gorham, Purchasing Agent on (301)
402-4509. A determination by the Government not to compete this
proposed requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely
within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be
considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a
competitive procurement. Posted 09/03/98 (W-SN245324). (0246) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0413 19980908\66-0014.SOL)
