66 -- OSCILLOSCOPE SOL RFQ80239(NR) DUE 092398 POC Marsha Gorham, Purchasing Agent, (301)402-4509 & Todd Cole, Contracting Officer The Radiation Biology Branch (RBB), Division of Clinical Sciences (DCS), National Cancer Institute (NCI) plans to procure an oscilloscope from Tektronix, Inc., P.O. Box 4600, Beaverton, OR 97076. The Radiation Biology Branch (RBB) is attempting to develop an Infra-red detection imaging system that would enable the mapping of sentinel nodes from breast cancer patients. If it could be determined which women have had cancer metatasize to neighboring nodes then these women could be targeted with more aggressive treatment protocols to improve their survival outcomes. To this end, RBB is developing an infra-red detection system to enable NCI to irradiate the breast area with very low energy infra-red photons and to detect any fluorescence coming from markers which would be targeted to nodes which are infiltrated by tumor cells. The process of creating this system will serve to minimize normal tissue damage, as well as reduce the expense of imaging systems. REQUIRED The system, which has a 1 GHz (1*1,000,000,000/sec)modulated diode laser, requires a fast digital oscilloscope capable of detecting signal modulated a the very fast speed of 1GHz and will allow real time collection and analysis of the signals. Since the Tektronix oscilloscope has a bandwidth of 2 Ghz and it can sample at speeds up to 4 Gegasamples/second with real time collection and analysis, it is the only source known to NCI that can meet the above requirement. If any interested party believes it can at least meet the above requirement, it may submit a statement of capabilities. The statement of capabilities and any other information furnished must be in writing and must contain material in sufficient detail to allow NCI to determine if the party can perform this requirement. Capability statements must be received in the contracting office by 3:00 p.m. EST, on September 23, 1998. If you have any questions, please contact Marsha Gorham, Purchasing Agent on (301) 402-4509. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Posted 09/04/98 (W-SN246504). (0247)
