PERSONNEL RECOVERY CONFERENCE II The Defense Prisoner of War (POW)/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO) will host the Second Annual DoD Personnel Recovery Conference at the Headquarters Complex, Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), Fort Belvoir, VA, 6-8 October, 1998. DPMO has invited the senior leadership of DoD and the interagency community to participate in the conference. The Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for POW/Missing Personnel Affairs (DASD (POW/MPA)) is responsible for policy, control, and oversight within DoD of the entire spectrum for investigation and recovery related to missing personnel (including matters related to search, rescue, escape, and evasion). Additionally, the DASD (POW/MPA) is responsible for coordinating with other departments and agencies of the U.S. government on all matters concerning missing personnel and personnel recovery. DPMO is hosting the conference to heighten awareness of personnel recovery policy-level issues throughout DoD, identify and resolve key policy issues, and to chart a course into the future for DoD regarding personnel recovery. If you are working with agencies involved in personnel recovery, or developing equipment or software to enhance recovery of isolated individuals, we invite you to set up a display at the conference. We will allow a limited number of displays in the common areas of the conference site. If you are interested in setting up a display, we must have a response from you no later than September 7 regarding your intent to attend the conference. Additionally, we need to know the size of your display, to include the amount of floor space your display will require. Please fax your visit request to DPMO at (703) 602-1891, or DSN 332-1891, attention Lt Col Rick Searle. DPMO will consolidate the requests for space that it receives by September 2, evaluate them and equitably distribute available floor space. DPMO will notify those who indicated their desire to attend of the space we allotted to them NLT September 16, 1998. To ensure the DPMO has the necessary security clearance information for you, please have your security office fax a VISIT REQUEST, on letterhead, to: Ms. Belote at (703) 602-1891 or DSN 332-1891. If appropriate, send a message certifying your clearance/accesses to: "SECDEF WASHINGTON DC//USDP: ISA/DPMO//" and include in the message: "pass to Ms Belote". Please call Ms. Belote a few days after sending your fax or message to confirm that your clearance information is on file.
