COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 9,1998 PSA#2176CIVIL AVIATION TRAINING CONFERENCE (CATC) International and US domestic
civil/commercial aviation in both passenger and cargo service is
growing at a pace that no one predicted just a few short years ago.
Orders for new equipment continue to arrive at the major aircraft
manufacturers at a rate that stretches their capacity to deliver.
Further, new pilot hiring requirements (caused by equipment changes
and/or pilot retirement rates) for major and regional carriers are
placing a significant strain on the US military's ability to retain an
adequate number of qualified pilots to fill front line squadrons.
Additionally, airline training centers and training centers owned and
operated by training companies are operating at capacity in order to
meet initial legislated certification and currency requirements. There
is very good news in all of this for the training systems industry in
that there will be a growth in demand for either new or upgraded
simulators. Further, training centers will have to increase or expand
to meet demand. To underscore the importance of these trends a Civil
Aviation Training Conference, sponsored by NTSA and ITEC, Ltd. and
hosted by American Airlines, will be held in Dallas at the DFW Airport
Hyatt-Regency Hotel on 29-30 October. Information: Barbara McDaniel at
