R -- PROFESSIONAL EXHIBIT SERVICES TO ASSIST THE WITH DEVELOPMENT OF INTELLECTUAL CONCEPTS FOR THE EXHIBITIONS OPEN IN 1999 SOL NLM 98-103/UHP DUE 092798 POC Uyen H. It is the intent of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) to procure professional services on a sole source basis with Michael Sappol, 635 E 14th, New York, NY 10009 to provide a continuation of exhibit services which were begun on July 20, 1998 and extend the period of performance through September 30, 1999 to increase the additional works required. The additional services will be the following: (1) develop potential concepts for exhibitions involving a deep understanding of history, science, technology, medicine, the Library's holdings, and current intellectual and popular health issues; (2) provide intellectual support in conceptualizing exhibition topics in the form of synopsis; (3) assist in identifying securing visiting curators (visiting curators are published scholars specializing in the field of study); (4) develop exhibitions outline which determine the overall physical structure of the exhibitions; (5) write scholarly essays for publication in the exhibitions catalogue; (6) assist in factual research, fact verification, photo/media and object research; and (7) assist in a variety of outreach efforts to other institutions, scholarly, professional and education programs. Mr. Sappol is an experienced writer/researcher/editor and has an exceptional background in history and science with a Ph.D. from Columbia University. He has unique experience as a scholar, professor, project historian, research, writer, and editor. He is skilled and experienced in developing intellectual concepts for research projects. This project requires an experienced, trained medical historian to develop the intellectual content of exhibitions which highlight the Library's collections and whose subject matter includes science, medicine, health, technology, history and the effect that these areas of study have on American culture and society. This is not a Request for Quotations (RFQ), nor is an RFQ available, however, all responsible and responsive sources may submit a proposal which will be considered by the NLM. Firms interested in responding to this notice must be able to provide professional service as specified and listed above. Responses should sufficiently demonstrate the firm's ability to meet the government's requirements. Responses are required within fifteen (15) calendar days from the publication date of this notice.
