01 TO THE COMBINED SYNOPSIS/RFQ FOR a Scanning Tunneling Microscope
(STM). Companies shall acknowledge all amendment(s) in their quote.
This notice serves as the official amendment to subject synopsis/RFQ
and a written amendment will not be issued. The purpose of this
amendment is to provide additional information regarding the
specifications for the Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM). The
following questions were submitted by parties interested in RFQ2-36883.
Question #1: Which is required for the STM, an Ultra High Vaccuum (UHV)
or Ultra Vaccuum (UV)? Answer #1: UHV is not required. The STM must
have the capability to operate in vaccuum or exchange gas. Question #2:
What is the range for cooling and heating for the STM? Answer #2: The
operating temperature capability should be below 2 degrees Kelvin.
Question #3: What is the required maximum scanned area? Answer #3: The
maximum scanning area is in the 3 to 15 micron range and able to take
6 differential inputs. Question #4: What is the range for the atomic
resolution? Answer #4: The atomic resolution should be in the 1 to 2
Angstrom range. Question #5: What is the required sample size? Answer
#5: The required sample size is 5x7x3 mm. The due date for receipt of
offers is not extended. Companies shall provide the information stated
in the synopsis/RFQ posted on the NASA Acquisition Internet Service
(NAIS) on September 16, 1998. Documents related to this procurement are
available over the Internet and are in Microsoft Office Suite (Word
6.0, Excel 5.0, or PowerPoint 4.0) format and reside on the World Wide
Web (WWW) server which may be accessed using a WWW browser
