Emory University will provide a physician with expertise to conduct the study in so that knowledge can be acquired as to which factors and genes are important in causing lung destruction in patients with (LAM) and ( TSC). Two protocols are to be written and develop that will be used in future studies related to these diseases. The period of performance is approximately five (5) months. The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute is conducting research on the pathogenesis of lymphangioleiomyomatosis or LAM, a rare disease found almost exclusively in women of childbearing age. Two protocols, are to be initiated first examining the relatively high frequency of osteopenia and osteoporosis in patients and looking at possible treatment regimens aimed at preventing rapid bone loss, and the second involving a LAM registry based at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. The Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Code is 8733, and Size Standard is $5.0M. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. The determination by the Government not to compete the proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
