The procurement is for the purchase of one full scale and six subscale, three bead, segmented gasko-seals. The full scale gasko-seal is a three bead, four segment seal utilizing silicon and is 80 in. in diameter and must meet the current International Space Station Common Berthing Mechanism interface seal design. The six sub-scale gasko-seals are three bead, two segment seals and are 24 in. square with each side representing a portion of the radious of the currnet International Space Station Common Berthing Mechanism interface seal design. All seals must meet the current -3 design specifications. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/MSFC intends to purchase the items from Parker-Hannifin Corporation, 7446 Panasonic Way, San Diego, CA 92173. This sole source is pursuant to FAR 13.106-1(2)(b) and based on system compatibility. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested firms have until September 25, 1998, to submit in writing to the identified point of contact, their qualifications/capabilities. Such qualifications/capabilities will be used solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. Responses received after September 25, 1998, or without the required information will be considered nonresponsive to the synopsis and will not be considered. A determination by the Government to not compete this proposed effort on a full and open competitive basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
