U -- VAMC MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM SOL 541-256-98 DUE 092898 POC Jeanelle Wright, (440) 838-6091 The Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center intends to issue a sole source award to the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama to develop a program to assist as the Dept. of Veterans Affairs Medical Center undergoes it's radical transformation from a hospital-based system to a Network delivering integrated healthcare. The need for current management and leadership skills becomes paramount. The program will be designed and delivered by Professors of Healthcare Administration and offer graduate credit hours for participants. The curriculum must include an action learning project, planned in conjunction with the home facility so participants can apply learning to real work immediately. The faculty will be responsible for (A) Developing a three-week curriculum for on-site students with two major lectures per week (total of 6) to include videoconference to the remote sites; (B) Developing all participant material; (C) Leading or facilitating all sessions; (D) Providing guidance and feedback on action learning projects. The University of Alabama faculty has provided this program for the VAMC since it's inception, updating annually according to the latest developments in health care and current realities in the VAMC. Due to the short time frame to offer the program in FY99, the VAMC intends to award to the University of Alabama. Other universities that could potentially deliver the same content, their program would have to be completely re-created and all logistics changed.
