Waste Management services located at Vandenberg AFB, CA. Vandenberg AFB
(VAFB) occupies 98,400 acres along the south-central coast of
California in Santa Barbara County. Solid waste management includes the
operation of the VAFB Class III landfill and scale house, basewide
refuse/recycling collection and the processing of concrete/asphalt
rubble. Automated scalehouse and landfill operations to include: the
tracking and disposal of approximately 10,000 tons per year of
municipal/industrial solid waste and construction and demolition waste;
compliance of permits and all state and local regulations;
recovery/diversion initiatives to meet AB 939 (including tires,
cardboard, and wood pallets); and the processing of approximately
15,000 tons per year construction and demolition debris to be used as
alternate daily cover. From a removed staging area, process
approximately 450,000 tons of existing concrete and asphalt generated
from past demolition projects into road base material and rip-rap along
with approximately another 23,000 tons per year of incoming concrete
and asphalt from future demolition projects. Collect and dispose refuse
into VAFB landfill, collect and dispose co-mingled recyclable materials
to an off-base Material Recovery Facility and collect and dispose of
green waste from family housing to an off-base composting facility.
Vandenberg has approximately 2,100 housing units, 360 industrial units
and one hospital all on 98,000 acres of open land. Posted 09/23/98
