COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF OCTOBER 7,1998 PSA#2196Commander, Naval Air Systems Command (Code 2.3), Patuxent Naval Air
Station, Bldg 2272, Lexington Park, MD 20670 10 -- GOVERNMENT-DIRECTED STUDY TO DEVELOP INSTALLATION AND
INTEGRATION CONCEPTS OF NOSE-MOUNTED TURRETED GUN SYSTEM FOR THE V-22
AIRCRAFT POC James Smith, Phone (301)757-5222, AIR-2.3.3.4 E-MAIL:
smithjm@navair.navy.mil, smithjm@navair.navy.mil. The Bell-Boeing V-22
Joint Program Team is soliciting information from potential suppliers
of nose-mounted turreted gun systems and compatible ammunition
handling systems. Information will be used to support
Government-Directed studies to develop installation and integration
concepts for the V-22 aircraft. Current plans call for the gun system
to be a defensive weapon with in-flight reload capability and internal
storage of spent rounds. Desired are: A 750 round minimum capacity;
selectable firing rates; ability to fire the entire system ammunition
load without a cooling period; and system capability to provide
rounds/counter information. The gun system must interface with an
existing FLIR system and be compatible with helmet/mounted sighting.
Maintainability, ease of boresighting and minimum dependence on
specialized tools/support equipment will be assessed. Bell-Boeing
engineering trade studies are anticipated to begin no later than
October 15 1998. Interested parties should reply to Bell Helicopter
Textron Inc., P.O. Box 482, Ft. Worth, TX 76101. Subcontract POC is Mr.
Richard L. McMahon. (817) 280-8127. Engineering POC is Mr. Ted W.
