COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF OCTOBER 9,1998 PSA#2198National Imagery and Mapping Agency 70 -- SOURCES SOUGHT FOR DIGITAL MEDIA MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS DUE 113098
POC Brian Wolfe, Contracting Officer, wolfeb@nima.mil or Technical POC,
Dale Lewis, lewisd@nima.mil The National Imagery and Mapping Agency
(NIMA), Technology Insertion and Assessment Office, Technology
Assessment Division (TAT), Digital Media Management Systems (DMMS)
Evaluation Team has submitted the following Request for Information
(RFI): (see Background below). If you or your organization is involved
in the area of Digital Media Management Systems or otherwise believe
that you have the capabilities which can potentially benefit the DMMS
Evaluation Team's activities described below, we are requesting such
information. Please mail, e-mail, or fax (not more than 6 pages please
-- not counting any brochures and pamphlets which you would care to
submit) your response to the RFI the address or numbers listed below by
November 30, 1998. The RFI: If you are a developer or vendor in the
area of Digital Media Management Systems (DMMS): 1. Provide us with a
point of contact (organization name, POC name, phone and fax numbers,
e-mail) who is familiar with your organization's activities. 2. Provide
us with a brief description of the DMMS capabilities. 3. Indicate
potential interest in being considered in NIMA's DMMS evaluation.
Background: NIMA wishes to evaluate methods of transitioning its
networks and data systems from the current multiple legacy systems to
coherent enterprise network systems, using state of the art, commercial
off the shelf technology (COTS). We are interested in finding
DEVELOPERS or VENDORS who are experienced in the area of data
management systems, where the data is digital media files. The types of
digital media files include, but are not limited to: Text based data;
Still imagery; Motion imagery; Audio; Audio/video; Digital maps; Moving
digital map displays; Digital geographic information (elevation,
terrain, features, etc.). We are interested in commercial off the shelf
technology that is standards compliant, i.e. CORBA data management
systems that can be used with web based technology, compliant with
HTTP, HTML, SSL, etc. As implied by SSL, the systems require
substantial security services. In your answer to this RFI, please
describe the security services your systems provide. An example list of
some of the security services includes: User identification;
Authentication; Transmission privacy; Data integrity; Non-repudiation.
Address the use of security standards such as X.509 in your response.
Please tell us about the collaboration capabilities of your systems.
This includes, but is not limited to: Chat; H.323 audio/video
teleconferencing; T.120 application sharing, etc. Depending on the
results of the DMMS Evaluation Team's Product, Technology, and Industry
Assessment, NIMA will determine whether to proceed with any operational
prototype developments and operational evaluations in 1999. NIMA will
consider funding modifications to particularly promising candidate
systems to allow testing in a NIMA environment using NIMA data. Please
send your responses to Mr. Dale Lewis by e-mail to lewisd@nima.mil, by
fax to (703) 453-3070, or by mail to: Dale Lewis; NIMA Technology; P.O.
Box 2879; Reston, VA 20195. NIMA may respond with a questionnaire to
ascertain additional information about your program. This is an open
and participative process. Should you determine that sharing of some
information is not desired, please clearly mark or indicate the
specific portions, and we will make every effort to protect that data
and honor your request. This process is being conducted as described in
SD-2, "Buying Commercial & Non-developmental Items: A Handbook", April
1996. Please respond by November 30, 1998. Thank you for your interest
and participation. Posted 10/07/98 (I-SN260220). (0280) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0213 19981009\70-0005.SOL)
