This award is a planned solication under the simplified acquisition process. The Food and Drug Administration [FDA], Center for Devices and Radiological Health [CDRH], intends to award a purchase order to Pathology Associates International based on the Scope of Work for technical services to complete the following tasks: 1] Treatment of pregnant animals by oral gavage, infection, heat, or other physical agents, 2] Blood collection and preparation of serum from laboratory rodents, including drawing of blood by exposure of dorsal aorta and by external cardiac puncture; preparation of heat-activated and dialyzed serum from such blood, 3] Autopsy of pregnant animals and examinaton of fetal and neonatal rodents, including: dissection of gravid uterus and explantation of embryos from decidual tissue and Reichert's membrane; analysis of three-dimensional relationships of organs and organ systems using microdissection of embryonic, fetal, and neonatal rodent tissues with a dissection microscope; identification and quantitation of structural, anatomical devations from normal range in fetal and neonatal rodents; preparation and staining of bone and cartilage in skeletal specimens of rodent fetuses and neonates, 4] Preparation and maintenance of rodent whole embryo cultures and mid-gestation evaluation of embryo/fetal development, 5] Prepare embryonic/fetal tissues for histologic evaluation and examine sections for segmental and other defects, and 6] Preform protein analysis of tissue samples, including gel electrophoresis, Western blots, Lowry assays and autoradiography. Period of Performance: date of award to one year. All equipment, research materials and facilities will be furnished by the Government at the Center for Devices and Radiological Health Laboratories.
