Information (RFI) only. This synopsis is for planning purposes only and
does not constitute an Invitation for Bids, Request for Proposals or
Request for Quotes. Federal Prison Industries, Inc. (FPI), also known
by its trade name UNICOR, is conducting market research to locate
sources of supply for low quarter, non-metalic toe, safety shoes to be
issued to Federal Bureau of Prisons inmates. Inmates in federal
custody are required to wear protective shoes in work situations. Shoes
must conform to ANSI Standard Z41 -- 1991. The anticipated contract
period is three years, and estimated annual usage is 100,000 pairs of
shoes. Inventory will be distributed by UNICOR to all Bureau of Prisons
facilities on an as-needed basis. The Government will provide warehouse
space at the Federal Correctional Institution located in Three Rivers,
Texas if necessary for consignment inventory. Free access to
designated warehouse space during normal business hours for contractor
staff may be authorized, in which case, the Government will give the
contractor access to a computer module with UNICOR's forecast of
requirements. The contractor will be liable for insurance costs for any
staff designated to work on-site. UNICOR is requesting the following
information from interested sources: 1.) Pricing including discounts
available for purchasing in bulk; 2.) Product descriptions and
specifications; 3.) Shipping arrangements including delivery time and
costs; 4.) Warranty terms and conditions. A Bureau of Prisons team
consisting of purchasing, quality control and production will evaluate
information collected from the various prison locations to ensure that
well-defined requirements are established early in the acquisition
period for accurate planning purposes. Detailed specifications are
