ANNOUNCEMENT -- Amendment 13 -- This amendment is to announce that the
Weapons and Materials Directorate (WMD) of the U.S. Army Research
Laboratory is soliciting research proposals for Cooperative Agreements,
Other Transactions and contracts. These arrangements will be for high
quality research in advanced optics manufacturing approaches to
attainment of computer controlled flexible manufacturing methods for
spherical and aspheric lenses appropriate as components in military
optical and electro-optical systems operating in the visible and
infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum. The objective is to
further the capabilities and application of deterministic methods for
precision optics fabrication and to implement these technologies in the
CONUS industry. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to,
improving the net shape surface quality attained by microgrinding (DMG)
and advancing development of the magnetorheological finishing (MRF)
process to produce final surface form and function, and manufacturing
advances required for fabrication of conformal optics. Due to funding
considerations offerors are encouraged to submit proposals by 31
October 1998; proposals submitted after that date will be considered
but funding may not be available to make any award(s). Note that
inclusion of outreach programs/efforts to the Historically Black
Colleges and Universities/Minority Institutions (HBCU/MI) community
will be viewed favorably by the Army Research Laboratory (eg. visiting
professors/graduate students, summer intern programs, etc.) .
Proposals are to be addressed to USA Material Command Acquisition
Center, Army Research Laboratory Contracting Division, ATTN: STEAA-AR-C
(B. Minnick/BAA Monitor), 2800 Powder Mill Road, Adelphi, MD
