N -- REHABILITATION OF MONITORING WELLS SOL 99WRSS0001 DUE 113098 POC Rita A. Leach, (650) 329-4162, FAX (650) 329-5480 E-MAIL: Click here to contact the contracting officer via, rleach@usgs.gov. The U.S. Geological Survey, Water Resources Division, Honolulu, Hawaii, has a requirement for drilling services on the Island of Guam. The work to be accomplished under the specifications is to rehabilitate eight (8) deep monitor wells in Northern Guam for the purpose of obtaining scientific data on the location and movement of the fresh water saltwater transition zone and continuous or periodic measurements of water levels within the Northern Guam Lens. The depth of the wells range from 400 feet to 785 feet. The wells rehabilitated by this work are to serve indefinitely as scientific observation wells. The wells to be rehabilitated were drilled into the several limestone formations of northern Guam. In most cases the limestone is highly permeable and the possibility exists of loosing circulation due to solution cavities and/or fractures if drilling is required to remove blockages or to clean out the well bore prior to installing the casing. If drilling fluids are required they should consist of air, water and drilling foam. In no case will drilling mud be used. Three of the wells have PVC solid casing and screen installed and great care must be used in cleaning out these wells so that the existing solid casing and screen is not damaged. The Contractor shall provide one complete rotary drilling unit, cranes or hoists, all tools, accessories, water, power, lighting, bits, well casing, gravel and all other equipment, materials and experienced personnel necessary to conduct the worked described in the specifications. The drilling unit shall be in good condition and of such capacity as to be able to operate and clean the well bore while under as much as 500 feet of water. The Contractor shall supply all casing, cement, gravel and water for the work. Because some of the work will be accomplished adjacent to or near residences and/or schools, suitable mufflers or other noise abatement may be required to comply with the local noise ordinance. Control of noise, dust, water and fluids from the drilling are the responsibility of the Contractor, and must meet all the requirements of all local ordinances. The rehabilitation of the eight wells shall commence on or before December 15, 1998 and be completed within a period of 60 days. See Numbered Note 1. Posted 10/09/98 (W-SN261077). (0282)
