lori.murphy@fhwa.dot.gov. The Federal Highway Administration
(FHWA) has a need to establish and operate a Bicycle and Pedestrian
Technical Information Center (the "Center"). To accomplish this work a
Grant Agreement is contemplated. It is anticipated that the grant will
be awarded to a national, not-for-profit organization engaged in
promoting bicycle and pedestrian safety. In addition to the FHWA, the
Center will support and augment the efforts of the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration, the Federal Transit Authority, and the
Federal Railroad Administration to increase the safety and use of
bicycling and walking by providing technical information and assistance
through a clearinghouse operation. The Center will also develop and
deliver information, training and educational programs to its users.
The Center must also disseminate techniques and strategies for
improving bicycle and pedestrian safety. The recipient of this grant
must be able to coordinate its efforts with all of the United States
Department of Transportation Agencies listed, not just the FHWA. In
addition, the recipient shall pursue partnerships with other
organizations and explore additional funding mechanisms for the purpose
of expanding the Center and its safety clearinghouse operation. NO
