Authority of Jordan, of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation is seeking
the services of an experienced U.S. consulting engineering firm for the
preparation of the engineering review, environmental assessment, final
engineering design and supervision of construction of a wastewater
collection, treatment and reuse system for North Jordan Valley
communities. The U.S. consulting firm may subcontract part of the work
to a Jordanian consulting firm, subject to certain limitations defined
in the study's Term of Reference (TOR). This activity will be financed
by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)
under the Water Resources Strategic Objective Agreement, Grant no.
278-0288. Project description: the Jordan Valley is approximately 105
km in length and changes in elevations from 212 below sea level at lake
Tibries at the north to 400 meter bellow sea level at the shores of the
Dead Sea. The population of the Jordan Valley is 140,000 (1993), of
whom 58,000 are residing in the study area. In February 1997, a
Canadian consulting firm completed a feasibility study and preliminary
engineering design to provide a sanitary services to 41 communities in
the Jordan Valley. Based on the study, WAJ requested usaid assistance
to design and construct a wastewater collection and treatment system to
serve the north Jordan Valley communities. Subsequently, USAID
contracted with the Environmental Health Project (EHP), to evaluate and
assess the Canadian study. The EHP report study provided a list of
recommended actions before proceeding in the design phase. Potential
U.S. consulting firms may obtain a copy of the RFP document for the
subject activity from the Water Authority of Jordan, P.O.Box 2412,

obtaining the RFP document is not later than 12:00 hours Jordan's time
on November 1, 1998. A prebid conference not exceeding two days
duration will be held. The first day will be used for a site visit to
the project area to be servedunder this activity, and the second day
will be used for a conference to be held in the Water Authority offices
in Amman. The dates for the pre-bid conference are November 11, 1998
and November 12, 1998. The date for submission of technical and
financial proposals will be not later than 12:00 hours Jordan's time on
