Box 2412, Amman, Jordan, Tel: 962-6-5680100, Faxc 962-6-5679143 The Water Authority of Jordan, of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation is seeking the services of an experienced U.S. consulting engineering firm for the preparation of the engineering review, environmental assessment, final engineering design and supervision of construction of a wastewater collection, treatment and reuse system for North Jordan Valley communities. The U.S. consulting firm may subcontract part of the work to a Jordanian consulting firm, subject to certain limitations defined in the study's Term of Reference (TOR). This activity will be financed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under the Water Resources Strategic Objective Agreement, Grant no. 278-0288. Project description: the Jordan Valley is approximately 105 km in length and changes in elevations from 212 below sea level at lake Tibries at the north to 400 meter bellow sea level at the shores of the Dead Sea. The population of the Jordan Valley is 140,000 (1993), of whom 58,000 are residing in the study area. In February 1997, a Canadian consulting firm completed a feasibility study and preliminary engineering design to provide a sanitary services to 41 communities in the Jordan Valley. Based on the study, WAJ requested usaid assistance to design and construct a wastewater collection and treatment system to serve the north Jordan Valley communities. Subsequently, USAID contracted with the Environmental Health Project (EHP), to evaluate and assess the Canadian study. The EHP report study provided a list of recommended actions before proceeding in the design phase.
