COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF OCTOBER 19,1998 PSA#2203-- FTA S ADVANCED PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS (APTS) MOBILE SHOWCASE
PROJECT The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) invites interested
parties to participate in a meeting on the FTA s Advanced Public
Transportation Systems (APTS) Mobile Showcase project. The meeting will
held in the U.S. Department of Transportation (US DOT) Multimedia
Center in the US DOT Headquarters building (400 Seventh Street, SW,
Washington, DC, Room 2201) on Monday, November 2, 1998 starting at 1:00
PM. The purpose of the meeting is to determine the interest of the APTS
and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) vendor communities, and
transit bus manufacturers, in participating in the Mobile Showcase
project. The APTS Mobile Showcase is conceived featuring a transit bus
that will demonstrate state-of-the-art APTS/ITS technologies such as
automatic vehicle location, electronic fare pa yment, automatic
passenger counters, and traveler information systems. The Mobile
Showcase also will display on-vehicle technology such as night vision
enhancement and collision avoidance technology. The Showcase also may
demonstrate technology associated with vehicle maintenance, and with
routing and scheduling. The Showcase will tour the country under the
sponsorship of the FTA and be on display at major transportation and
transit conferences, individual transit operator locations, and other
venues in the contiguous United States. The Showcase also will promote
the benefits of using APTS technologies to improve safety and
operational efficiency, and to attract new riders. Finally, the
Showcase will provide the FTA with a mechanism for education and
consensus building among the transi t community and general public. The
US DOT Headquarters building is a secured government facility. Please
